Helpful Tips for New Mom’s who are Suffering from Postpartum Depression
Many new moms make the mistake of never telling anyone they are feeling depressed or overwhelmed by the new baby and their new role in life. Keeping it a secret happens for many reasons. Some of these reasons include the fact that the new mom does not want anyone to think of them as an unfit mother. If you are feeling depressed or know someone who is showing signs of postpartum depression here are a few tips that can help a new mom make it through those feelings of being depressed.1) If the baby naps then you should nap too. Being tired will only make you feel more overwhelmed and depressed.
2) Don’t keep pushing yourself to be wonderwoman. Do what you can and let the rest go for another day. If the house doesn’t get dusted or the laundry sits for an extra day oh well.
3) Join a support group. There are plenty of other mothers out there who are going through or have been through similar feelings. The support will be good for you and will also get you out of the house.
4) Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember those friends and family members who said “If you need anything, call me?” Well call them. Ask them to come over and help you with some house work or to sit with the baby while you do the housework.
5) Spend time alone with your partner. Being new parents doesn’t mean that your relationship should stop. Even if you can’t go out together, rent a movie and cuddle on the couch or spend an evening talking.
