How can I take care of the whole family while supporting my teen during treatment?

Taking care of yourself, don’t ignore your own needs.  Being healthy will help you stay less stressed, and keep your emotions in check.  Also reaching out for support, join a support group, talking to friends, or seek your own therapist during these times can offer both you and your teen the support you both need.

Be open with the family, don’t just tiptoe around the situation of your teen’s depression.  Kids are intuitive, and know when something is wrong.  Remembering the other children, don’t forget that depression can affect more that just the teen himself; it can affect the other children as well.  So make sure that you pay attention to each child. Also avoid the blame game; it is easy to blame yourself or others for your teen’s depression.  Remember that being supportive to your teen and your family is key in getting through a tough situation together.
