Are there suicide warnings in a teen?
Yes, there are many warnings in teens that have suicidal tendencies. If they often joke or kid about suicide, or saying things like “I’m better off dead,” or “I wish I was dead.” there is a possibility that your teen is thinking about or contemplating suicide.
Also listen for or watch for a few other things, like writing poems, stories that are about death, dying or suicide. Engage in fighting or reckless behavior, even having accidents resulting in injury. Saying good bye to friends and giving away prized possessions could also be warning signs that a teen is considering suicide. Teens might speak positively about death or romanticizing dying, or even seeking out weapons, pills or other ways to kill themselves.
If you know of a teen that has these warning signs you should seek help right away. You can get help by calling the following hotline number: 1-800-Suicide there is someone there to answer your call 24 hours a day 7 days a week including holidays. Don’t hesitate to get help!
